Cigna Group Health Insurance for California Employers
Cigna in California is a mid-size and large group story. It does not compete broadly in the small group fully insured market here the way Anthem, Blue Shield, Kaiser or Health Net do – but for the groups it does serve, it brings a strong national network and a level funding product with a lower entry point than most people expect.
What Cigna sells to California employers
- Cigna Level Funding – available to California employers with as few as 25 full-time employees. Renewing clients with lower-than-expected claims are eligible for a share of the savings back; if claims run high, the fixed payment does not increase mid-year.
- Mid-market and large group fully insured plans (Open Access Plus and related network designs).
- Self-funded (ASO) administration for large employers, with global coverage capabilities for international workforces.
What we tell employers
Under 25 employees, Cigna is usually not the conversation in California. From 25 up, Level Funding makes it a legitimate third bid against UHC Level Funded and Aetna Funding Advantage – and running all three against fully insured renewals is exactly the exercise we do. For large California employers with international staff, the Cigna global capabilities are a real differentiator.
